Final round of the Scottish Youth and Adult MX2 Motocross Championships. Report and Pictures by Neil Adamson.
Shiplaw by Peebles was the venue for the sixth and final round of the Scottish Youth and Adult MX2 Championships held over the weekend. The event, hosted by the Scottish Youth Motocross Club, was very much a meeting of two halves with Saturday’s fine weather promoting some very fast racing on the billiard smooth track. Sunday was a very different kettle of fish as the heavens opened making turning the track into a quagmire that some riders could not negotiate
The 50cc automatics were out first, Aiden Campbell taking five wins out of five, with Ryan Archibald coming in second. In the Junior 65cc class runaway championship leader, Jay Lamb, made the most of the conditions on both Saturday and Sunday to record five straight victories with Keiran Hunter making him work for them. Ryan Livingstone topped 85cc Small Wheel class championship with three victories, Ian Stewart and Ian Finlay taking a win apiece. Matthew Flemming dominated the 85cc Big Wheel class scooping four wins and Cameron Pendreich taking one first place.
The Schoolperson’s 125 and MX2 classes were run together and the very stylish Ryan McLean was the boy to beat on his screaming RM125cc two stroke winning four of the races outright and taking the 125 class with ease. Chasing him were the boys on their 250 four stroke machines, Mark Perfect and Gary Sharp, with Steven Craig taking one race win after a controversial race restart.
The Adult racers had the worst of the conditions having all of their races in the mud on Sunday. A flying Tony Craig showed that he was the master of the foul weather with two race wins and a third race second (with fastest lap time). Sean McDonald took the runner-up spot with a last race win but Neil Flockhart was unlucky not to figure in the overall results after two second places in the first two races. Craig Trew took the honours in the Adult Open class

Scottish Youth and Adult MX2 Motocross Championships Round Five. Report and Pictures by Neil Adamson.
Shiplaw by Peebles was the venue for the fifth round of the Scottish Youth and Adult MX2 Championships held over the weekend. The event, hosted by the Scottish Youth Motocross Club, was very much a meeting of two halves with Saturday’s showers making the track a mudbath. On Sunday the club did a wonderful job of preparing the track with a bulldozer and the weather stayed fine for some really spectacular racing. Due to the very muddy conditions the Auto 50cc riders had a makeshift track constructed for them on the start straight for Saturday’s races and on Sunday they used part of the main track. Aiden Campbell took the honours with Arron MacDonald chasing him all the way. In the Junior 65cc class runaway championship leader, Jay Lamb, made the most of the conditions on both Saturday and Sunday to record five straight victories with runner up spots being taken by Kyle Peebles, Conor Curran and Oscar Cochrane. Ryan Livingstone extended his lead in the 85cc Small Wheel championship with three victories with Ian Stewart and Fraser Pohlen taking a win apiece. Matthew Flemming totally dominated the 85cc Big Wheel class with Cameron Pendreich keeping him honest on Saturday and Peter Graham and Daniel Monks doing the chasing on Sunday. The Schoolperson’s 125 and MX2 classes were run together and as becoming a bit of a habit Ryan McLean was the boy to beat on his smaller 125cc two stroke winning the races outright and taking the 125 class with ease. Chasing him on his 144 KTM was Gary Sharp but a no score in race three left the door open for Mark Perfect to take the overall for the weekend. The Adult racers all had three races on the Sunday and enjoyed the best of the conditions with both MX2 and open classes being run together. Sean McDonald cruised to three easy MX2 victories with Ryan Blair picking up second and Joe Garrick third. Gavin Robertson romped to three victories on his 250cc two stroke in the open class for victory over Jon Williamson and Simon Graham.

Eddleston near Peebles is the scene for the fifth round of the Scottish MX2 and Youth Motocross Championships. The action on the 28th and 29th of June takes place at the superb Shiplaw motocross track with a selection of tabletop jumps, a huge wall of death on camber corner and bermed up hairpins offering excellent spectating. The youth classes have three races each on Saturday and two each on Sunday. The Youth 144/250f class is currently lead by Gary Sharp who will be trying to fend off the likes of Mark Perfect and Steven Rennie while the youth 125 class is hotly contested by Ryan McLean and Aidan Bruce. In the 85 Big Wheel class current British 85SW champion, Matthew Fleming, will be out to continue his fine run of form and defend his championship lead from Cameron Pendreich and in the 85 Small Wheel class Ryan Livingstone sits clear of Danny Stalker and John Adamson. Junior 65cc rider Jay Lamb sits comfortably on top of his series’ standings.
The adults on their monster MX2 250cc machines will have three races on the Sunday. Tony Craig, fresh from his last round victory at Rhynie, will be battling it out with Tommy Fenwick, Sean McDonald and the rest.

Rd 4 Report By Neil Adamson.
Rynie in the Highlands of Scotland was where the Aberdeen and District Motocross Club hosted the fourth round of the Scottish Youth and Adult MX2 Motocross Championships last weekend. The club had done a superb job of preparing the track which has some very fast, flowing sections, some beautiful tabletop jumps with faces like polished concrete, and a section composed almost entirely of hairpin bends. The nature of the track makes passing very difficult and so close racing is always the order of the day.
With the two day format the youth classes all had three races on the Saturday and two each on Sunday.
The automatic 50cc class had their own separate track and Aaron McDonald was the boy who showed the others how it should be done. For all the other classes timed practice determined who had pick of the start gate and 65cc supremo, Jay Lamb, posted a time some 3 seconds faster than his nearest rival and then went on to three runaway victories on Saturday with Keiran Hunter, local ace Ash Darling and Oscar Cochrane taking the runner-up positions. On Sunday it looked like it was going to be a repeat of Saturday’s form until Jay overdid it on a very fast downhill section and he and his bike cart wheeled down the track. A badly bruised Jay eventually re-mounted to trail in last, his misfortune allowing Ash Darling a hard fought victory. Race five was normal service resumed, with Jay motoring away at the front to another comfortable win.
The practice times for the 85 Small Wheel class were much closer with five seconds covering the top seven and Ryan Livingstone sitting on top of the heap. This he translated in five stunning victories showing some very fast, very neat, riding. Ryan was really in a class of his own but the races for the places were what kept the spectators happy as Danny Stalker, John Adamson, Fraser Pohlen and the rest flew round, sometimes in very close company.
In the 85 Big Wheel class current 85SW British champion, Matthew Flemming, was fastest in practice by a clear three seconds. Next up came Cameron Pendreich who was six seconds clear of third. The racing followed the practice form, Matthew leaving his rivals eating dust and Cameron keeping him honest some way back. The racing, then, really centred on the places, with a lot of close formation action from the likes of Daniel Monks and Lachlan Josey.
The 125 and MX2 classes were run together and during Saturday practice Tommy Fenwick was over six seconds a lap faster than the pack. At the start of race one he fired his KTM 250F into a lead that he held until the flag, 125 mounted Ryan McLean, Gary Sharp and Steven Craig picking up the places. Tommy also won Saturday’s two other races with Ryan McLean again beating all the MX2 bikes on his screaming Suzuki. There was close racing throughout the field from Steven Rennie, David Houston and Mark Perfect. On Sunday Tommy moved to the Adult MX2 class leaving the path clear for Ryan. Ryan’s bike had ideas of its’ own and stopped in the middle of race four. Steven Craig and Gary Sharp had a win each with Steven getting the overall win by a slender three points.
Tommy Fenwick moved over to the adult MX2 class on Sunday and it was no surprise to see him sitting on top of the practice pile at the end of the timed session. Race one started with Tony Craig getting the all important holeshot into a lead which he held for two laps. His machine then slowed dropping him to fourth and giving Graeme Riley the lead with Tommy Fenwick hard on his heels. Graeme’s lead was short lived, however, when a minor tumble dropped him to Third. This let young Tommy through into the lead which he held to the flag chased all the way by Sean McDonald. Tony Craig again holeshot race two and made no mistakes for an impressive win over Sean McDonald who in turn was being chased by a flying Tommy Fenwick who set the fastest lap time during his exciting pursuit of Sean. In the last race Tony again made the start look easy and then hit the cruise control button. Sean moved into second but could do nothing to stop Tony’s third victory to take a deserved overall win.

SCOTTISH YOUTH AND ADULT MX2 CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 3.
FLY’N RYAN
The Borders Motocross Club hosted the third round of the Scottish Youth and Adult MX2 Motocross Championships at Duns in the Scottish Borders, at the weekend. With a huge number of riders taking part in this very popular two day event, the start lines for each race were jammed with talented pilots from all over Britain raring to do battle over the superbly well groomed track.
Adult MX2 - No one could live with the pace set by Sean McDonald who extended his lead in the championship taking three race wins. Keeping him honest were hard charging Peter Kelly with Ewan Mclaren having a fine weekend with second overall.
Youth 125 Two Stroke - The youth 125 class produced what must be the rider of the meeting in young Ryan McLean. His first race on Saturday could have been a very short one as he ended up in a heap after a disagreement as to who owned the first corner. He then proceeded to blitz through the entire field to take the first of five wins. On Sunday the Youth 125’s and MX2 boys were put out together and again Ryan showed his superiority by beating all the older boys on their larger bikes.
Youth MX2 - Tommy Fenwick gave his rivals something to think about with a qualification lap some six seconds faster than next up, Gary Sharp. He translated this stunning form into a first race victory but in the second race a big spill left Tommy with concussion and an end to his weekend’s racing. Gary Sharp, Steven Rennie, Mark Perfect and David Plank all had race wins but the most consistent rider over the weekend was Steven Rennie who emerged victorious
Youth 85cc Big Wheel - Matthew Flemming, still nursing an injured foot, had his work cut out to maintain his championship lead with Cameron Pendreich in stunning form, taking two victories for the overall win after some very close racing.
Youth 85cc Small Wheel - English raider, Sam Winterburn, was the man on form with only a last race DNF stopping him from taking a clean sweep. A Scottish trio of Danny Stalker, Greg Queen and Ryan Livingstone were taking it in turns to chase Sam home with Danny ending up with the most points after the five races.
Youth 65cc - Jay Lamb looked like he was really enjoying himself being far and away the fastest 65 rider out there. His enjoyment turned to pain, however, when he went down hard in a whoops section during race four and did not finish the race. This left Keiran Hunter on top of the points table with an overjoyed Elaine MacEachern beating the rest of the boys for second.
Youth Automatic 50cc- Aiden Campbell ran amock yet again to win all five races with Aaron McDonald chasing him home for all he was worth.

HONEST INTERNATIONAL YOUTH TEAM EVENT 2008
We have been given the opportunity to run this top International Youth event in Scotland for 2008. This would be fantastic for Scottish Youth Motocross and would really put Scotland on the map. To make this happen will take a lot of effort and a lot of teamwork.
The SACU, Andy Russell and Stuart Flockhart are all keen to see this happen, as am I and all those who attended the event in Sweden last year! Herman Hoff the promoter is also keen to have it in Scotland.
This is not yet set in stone as we need to know that enough people here are prepared to pull together to make it happen. It is not something that can be run by three or six people.I have organised a Meeting next week to discuss the proposals to run this event, and anyone who would be willing to help in the organisation of it, please contact me in the first instance on 01575 570040 or email me at jvs1@sky.com
The event will be held in July - most likely w/e of 26th/27th.
Come on, lets get this going and make it happen !
Jim Smith
YMX Chairman
YMX Youth Scottish Championship 2008.
2008 will see a revamped championship with all rounds now being run over two days. It will be six rounds all at different tracks. Riders will get five races over the weekend and can drop the worst result of the five on each round.
