YMX Youth Scottish Championships & CompMX adult 125 Scottish Championships

RD 5 – DRUMCLOG

SUNDAY 17TH JUNE

Following a week of rain, the YMX Scottish/Adult 125 Championship arrived at Drumclog in Ayrshire expecting the worst in terms of track conditions. Instead, thanks to a tremendous amount of track work , all was superbly prepared and the day dawned dry which was a relief to many!

Now past half way in the championships, numbers were down a bit, but that didn’t mean that racing was any less exciting! Every class saw some outstanding racing but unfortunately too there were some big offs which required the air ambulance on two occassions. We wish those injured lads a speedy recovery.

The 65cc juniors were, as always first away, and what a pace they set off at! Fearless to the end there were battles for position both at the top and further down too. Greg Queen and John Adamson were closely matched and battled tooth and nail throughout the day, with Queen managing to take a narrow win each time for a maximum score. Dean McLeod had to work hard to hold off a hard charging Robert Smith but held onto third with Smith in fourth.

The Small Wheel 85cc boys were shown how its done once again by the super quick Matthew Fleming. Fleming once again posted a perfect score, not having dropped one point in the entire five rounds so far. The chasing four riders were all closely matched, but a few spills for Ryan Livingstone, and a dnf with collapsed suspension for Danny Stalker, meant that Ian Stewart riding well took advantage of their bad luck to take second with a consistent day for Josh Craig who took the last top three spot.

Excellent racing was on the board as usual for the Big Wheel 85cc class. Ewan McLaren  and Steven Craig gave not an inch in their battle for supremacy! Steven took the holeshot in two races but McLaren overhauled him, however Craig benefited from McLaren making an uncharacteristic mistake to take the third win. Lots of great racing throughout the field made it fantastic spectating, but in the end, Aidan Bruce took third spot.

The SP125cc class was awesome too! Tommy Fenwick,  threw down the gauntlet with some real determined riding but despite winning two from three races, unfortunately a dnf with a broken chain in race one dropped him down the points. Clinton Duff, having his last race with the Scottish lads before moving to USA was in superb form too, but again had a dnf which put him out of the top six. You will be missed Clinton!  Ryan Blair took top spot with two seconds and a third, consistency being the name of the game – a great result for Ryan considering he had been unwell all week. Gary Bell and Gary Sharp also both had a good day to take second and third.

The CompMX Adult 125cc Championship saw a disappointing turnout but at the top of the field it was as fierce as ever. Jamie Duncan was on top form taking three holeshots to win the holeshot award sponsored by Hire 1. Jamie held onto his top spot in all three races despite being pushed hard by Sean MacDonald and Scott Findlay.  MacDonald took second with Findlay in third.

Round six heads north again to the fast Rhynie track on 1st July – see you all there!!
