YMX Scotland Youth Motocross Championship
Rd 8 – Leuchars
18 th August 2007
The season is getting on and here we are at the penultimate round of the nine round Youth Scottish championships.
In some classes there is still all to play for, for top positions whilst some others are pretty much wrapped up but this didn’t deter anyone, with the racing being as good as ever.
The weather forecast was awful, as we have come to expect this year, and right enough, by the middle of the day down it came and was relentless all day. Racing continued in spite of it with the track holding up pretty well, although by the end of the day it was beginning to deteriorate somewhat.
First out of the gates, the 65cc class saw some great racing. John Adamson and Greg Queen have everything to play for to see who will come out on top for the championship and they battled every inch of all three races. Adamson had a less eventful day than Queen, who lost his seat and then dropped it dropping to fifth in the first moto, but came back with a win and a second. Adamson took two wins and a second. Adamson took the overall with Queen in second. Fraser Pohlen managed to stay ahead of the battle amongst the next four riders for two out of three races taking third overall.
Matthew Fleming took his usual three straight wins in the Small Wheel 85 class, with Ian Stewart and Ryan Livingstone having a great battle for second and third. Livingstone, back on a KTM finally came out better with two seconds and a third, whilst Honda mounted Stewart never gave up the hunt but had to settle for third. Stewart moves up to second in the championship after Josh Craig who had been in second, took a mighty tumble and was unable to continue.
We saw the now customary tussle for top spot in the Big Wheel 85cc class. Steven Craig and Ewan McLaren were out front in every race and it was anyone’s guess who would win in each moto. Despite giving it everything he could, Craig just couldn’t stay ahead of McLaren and took three seconds behind McLarens three maximums. Aiden Bruce was in top form and took a convincing three thirds behind McLaren and Craig.
The 125cc Youth Class saw some fantastic racing too. Tommy Fenwick continued his superb form dominating from the front, with Ryan Blair trying his utmost to get on terms with him. Fraser Norrie and Gary Sharp were both in great racing form too, but Fenwick kept a clear track ahead to take a maximum score. Blair took three seconds and holds onto the lead of the championship, with Norrie taking an excellent third.
The SACU/Comp MX Adult 125cc Scottish Championship could have gone any way with any one of the top five capable of taking the win. Each moto went to a different rider such was the close competition between them. Exciting racing to say the least!!Sean MacDonald took moto one ahead of Scott Findlay, with Neil Flockhart in third. Flockhart got the better of them in race two with MacDonald in second and Findlay in third. Findlay took the final moto with McDonald second and Flockhart third. MacDonald took the overall, with Findlay second and Flockhart third.
In the supports, the auto class was won by Daniel dey, with Morgan Legge in second and Ryan Archibald third. The adult open was won by Tony Craig ahead of Scott Findlay and Gavin Robertson.
The final round of the YMX Championships is on Sun 16 th September at Drumclog. It is going to be exciting as we see who is crowned our new champions so make sure you are there!
