SCOTLAND YOUTH SCOTTISH CHAMPIONSHIP & SACU ADULT 125CC
CHAMPIONSHIPSUNDAY 13TH MAY HIGHLAND MX CLUB, ARDERSIER
The Highland Club at Ardersier near Inverness, were pulling out all the
stops for round four of the YMX Youth Scottish Championships. After missing
out on a round last year they were making sure rd 4 of the championship made
a lasting impression on the 140 riders who made the long journey north.
Superb track preparation was not marred by the heavy overnight rain, but
thankfully Sunday dawned clear and sunny.
Almost at the half way stage of the nine round championship, there was all
to play for and THE DAY promised to be full of action!
Practice for the 65cc boys was on the muddy side, after the night’s rain but
the track did dry as the day went on. By the time they took to the track for
the first race, the ‘big boys’ had cleared the mud and the usual fierce
racing amongst the wee guys got under way. Greg Queen set a blistering pace
leading from the ever quick John Adamson, but an engine seizure for Queen
handed Adamson the win. Fraser Pohlen was on form and took second ahead of
Dean McLeod. Queen made sure in races two and three that the same wasn’t
going to happen and took both wins, with Adamson taking two seconds ahead of
a consistent Dean McLeod in third. Adamson took the overall along with
increasing his lead in the championship, with McLeod in second and Jack
Taylor having a trouble free day to take third.
Matthew Fleming was again the man to beat in the Small Wheel 85c class and
despite a spill in race one took three convincing wins, to increase his lead
in the championship. Ryan Livingstone is proving to be not only fast but
consistent and took runners up spot behind Fleming with three second places.
Danny Stalker who has just moved up to this class mid season showed Josh
Craig and Ian Sewart a clean pair of heels taking the third podium position
with a third and two fourths.
Just to give the spectators some excitement, the top three Big Wheel 85cc
riders off the line in moto one decided to all drop their bikes in the same
spot!!. Fortunately, Ewan Mclaren, Mark Perfect and Steven Craig all got
back up uninjured, but in the meantime had handed the lead to Hannah McLeod
who is flying the flag for girl power! She led for most of the race before
being overhauled by McLaren. Mark Perfect was third. Races two and three
were dominated by Ewan McLaren, however Craig, Perfect and McLeod were all
hanging in there and battling for the top positions. Perfect eventually got
second overall, with Craig just taking third ahead of a valiant effort from
Hannah.
The 125cc Youth class saw Tommy Fenwick as the man out front once again.
Three maximum scores on the board in a trouble free day. All of the top six
gave some fast and exciting racing with not much between them! A mistake by
anyone would not have been forgiven! Clinton Duff and Ryan Blair, as always
battled it out on the track, with Duff getting the better of Blair with two
seconds and a third to Blair’s two thirds and a second.
The CompMX Adult 125cc Scottish Championship saw some wheel to wheel
exciting racing with any one of the final top five capable of winning. Tony
Craig’s determination rewarded him with three wins in the end, with Scott
Findlay and Ricky Mair tying on points for the other podium places, but
Findlay got the higher place due to a higher finish in moto three. Sean
MacDonald was consistently fast and had a trouble free day to take 4th
on the day and the championship lead.
Round 5 sees the championship head south to the exciting Drumclog track on
17th June.
