I agree, a van crashed into my garage in the snow last week, driver then hit my wall on the way out and then pulled wing mirror off on a tree, got out and picked up numberplate and mirror, then drove away. Luckily i had a witness who got reg number and description. The front of garage has to be completly rebuilt and my new garage door is twisted, major hassel, ill have to put everthing in storage. It took the police 24hours to come out and they were not interested, they have done nothing and say they can not trace van driver, 57 plate VW Transporter. I checked number plate on a website and van is insured, so why cant they trace van, its now been two weeks and the van will repaired. Any one got any good advice? I am insured but trying to get approval from insurance company is a nightmare.

What was out of order was the fact you were littering. I hate it when people just spit stuff in the street. How difficult is it to put something in the bin? The police might be useless at finding stolen bikes much of the time, but you did break the law, he saw it and gave you a fine. You then gave him a load of backchat, what did you expect him to do? Tell you to carry on your way and have a nice day, whilst ripping up the ticket?

You were lucky you didn't do that in Singapore, you would have ended up in prison and probably have got a kicking for answering back too. Chewing gum itself is illegal there because of the problems it causes when people just spit it out.

A policeman's job is to uphold the law. You broke it and got done. That doesn't seem unfair to me.

Hi this is an e-mail address of theCID inspector in Dundee. JUST KEEP E-MAILING HIM WITH DETAILS OF UR BIKE THAT'S BEEN STOLEN. Weve not had any luck getting Liam's bike back yet BUT it sure keeps us in their mind cause every time i hear of a bike being stolen in the Angus/Dundee area i always e-mail him. He must be getting sick of me but he always e-mails me back! GOOD LUCK

Scot all that your insurers should require is the details of the van involved, your witness' name and adress and the incident number/crimefile reference which the police have to give you when asked if you don't already have it.

Elginboxer,

A year on, police never followed up, i called them on various occasions, but no further communication. Insurance company paid out, but this years premium shot up.

They were happy to give me 3 points and a fine, for talking on my mobile, when i was parked at side of the road, with my handbrake on, they said as my engine was running, i was in charge of the vechicle and they were on a target that week, to catch drivers on mobiles. I agree you should not drive when on the mobile, thats why i parked up!!!!!!

 good post all the same - more awareness of littering at tracks etc is required :king:

In other words, this is the machine for the power crazy, the acceleration mad, the two-stroke fanatic. Perhaps not very civilised, but terribly sexy, full of character and above all unique!

We all hope we never ave to deal with the police with our bikes getting stolen. I honestly think that they don't think it is a big deal, think about it, if someones car gets stolen, they would usually turn up pretty sharpish to try and get details and see if they can do anything, you say the words "dirt bike" and they don't care. Frankly, the new prices some 2010 bikes cost as much as a car. They maybe assume that racers usually hang around on couple of hundered quid bikes from the late 90s that just about work for causing trouble around a council estate, or maybe they are a bunch of damn expensive race machines which pepole put alot of time, effort and money into, who knew?
