BYMX Haverigg round report - V Smith
The National boys at Haverigg had the best of the weather from what we hear, with blazing sunshine quickly drying up the wet track for rd 5 of the BYMX British Youth Championships this weekend (7th/8th July). Only two days earlier parts of the track had been completely under water so it was a credit to the organising club that they stuck to their guns and ran the event. With a couple of the lads not able to make it for various reasons, there was a smaller Scottish camp than usual, but certainly no less fun was had by riders and parents alike!!!    All the lads gave their all, some faring better than others, but Steven Craig in the big wheel 85's was the one to make us all sit up and take notice! He was in awesome form, taking two holeshots and leading two of the races for a while before unfortunately succumbing to the pressure from behind. He finished 11th overall. Also in this class was Ewan McLaren, fast and consistent as ever coming in just one place ahead of Steven in 10th. Colin Smith finished 29th, coming back from a spectacular crash in practice which left him nursing a sore neck. In the SW 85class, Matthew Fleming had a mixed weekend, but took the overall with a superb win in race four, following a second, a third and a seventh place. He tied on points with his nearest rival in the championship so his lead remains unchanged. Just two rounds to go Matthew, keep it up!!   The wee guys in the 65's gave their all - track conditions on Saturday were pretty difficult for them - Thankfully the track was better for them by Sunday when it had dried out well and been regraded, and they both had a great day. Fraser finished in 14th overall, an excellent result, with Robert's bad day one coming back to haunt him-leaving him in 21st overall.  Ryan Blair and Tommy Fenwick both gave the competition something to think about in the premier 125 class. Ryan  ended the weekend 14th overall, unfortunately having a poor race two which robbed him of a top ten finish. Tommy was in his usual fighting form mixing it at the head of the field. He ended the weekend a fantastic third overall.  The boys are at their home track of Leuchars next for rd 6. They need all the support and cheering they can get so make sure you come along and support them!

Just so that you know who to cheer on here are their race numbers...
