Scottish Youth MCC sent a team to the BYMX Team event at Haverigg this year, the first time for a few years that any team from Scotland has attended.

We went without any particular expectations, but a lot of hope and determination from the lads. 20 riders across 4 youth classes plus an adult class donned their stunning team shirts and gave their all. Everyone pulled together and really raised their game, pulling out all the stops to do their very best. The team spirit was awesome with Saltires a plenty flying.

If nothing else we were going to make sure we were the best supported team, and weren’t we just – by a long stretch!!!

After block one the team was in 9th position so we really felt like we were going to be up against it, but the lads resolve was never broken – they all worked their socks off and by the end of Saturdays racing had climbed up to 5th. Sunday, again saw every one of the team give it their all and going into the final block of racing, we were in third, just two points adrift from second. A huge effort in every class finally saw us up to second! What can we say!!!  Good on you boys - you did us proud!!!

7 blocks of racing and not one dnf between all of them!  Brilliant!

Special mention has to go to Ian Wilson, (adults) who despite two blown engines and a badly injured knee, rather than retire from the event and see the team penalised by an extra 50 points (points were done in reverse – ie 1 point for 1st etc) for each race he didn’t start, or finish, he borrowed a bike and somehow got round just to make sure we got the best points we could. Without his efforts we might have only been third.
